We are looking for a Credit Risk Senior Associate to contribute to N26's credit risk function within its Treasury business. The position is essential for developing and refining credit analysis, risk management, and control tools, establishing robust credit processes, and ensuring meticulous adherence to current regulations, particularly MaRisk and other EBA Guidelines. The Senior Associate will support the entire credit lifecycle, contribute to data process improvements, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure transparent and compliant credit risk management, scaling the function in line with the increasing size and complexity of N26's treasury business and supervisory expectations.
- Proactively contribute to the ongoing development of N26's credit risk functions for our treasury business, directly supporting our ambitious investment goals and risk leadership aspirations.
- Conduct comprehensive credit reviews and ratings for a diverse range of large counterparties, including public sector entities and financial institutions, meticulously ensuring compliance with both internal policies and critical regulatory requirements such as KWG, MaRisk, and EBA Guidelines.
- Actively participate in the evolution of our credit risk governance, refining rating systems and optimizing lending processes.
- Provide crucial support in the evaluation, diligent monitoring, and precise reporting of Treasury portfolio exposures.
- Drive data process improvement initiatives, identifying and seizing opportunities for automation and significant efficiency gains in risk reporting and data management.
- Be a key enabler for N26's treasury business, contributing to the development of innovative credit solutions, meticulously preparing credit/investment decisions, and executing robust credit controls.
- Support the advancement of advanced credit analysis methods, processes, and robust controls throughout the entire credit lifecycle – from initial credit decisioning to continuous monitoring, early warning systems, and intensified/problem loan management.
- Assist in the refinement of our treasury strategy, governance, methodology, and process frameworks, ensuring unwavering compliance with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., KWG, MaRisk, EBA Guidelines) and embracing applicable best practices.
- Collaborate seamlessly with Group Treasury, Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, Risk Controlling, Accounting, Regulatory Reporting, and Tech departments to embed credit requirements, foster transparency, ensure compliance with applicable credit law and regulations, and cultivate a strong risk culture across the organization.
Background
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a comparable field; additional qualification (e.g., Master's degree in relevant field, passed CFA or FRM exams) is a strong plus.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in credit risk management or wholesale credit analysis, ideally with exposure to sovereigns, financial institutions, and/or structured products. Previous experience in a FinTech environment is a definite advantage
Skills
- Demonstrated, profound experience in credit risk assessment and monitoring for critical risk-relevant credit business, particularly with sovereigns, financial institutions, or structured transactions.
- Proven ability to meticulously assess the creditworthiness of diverse counterparties, encompassing in-depth ratings analysis, financial statement review, and understanding of sensitivity to market conditions in Treasury credit exposures.
- Comprehensive understanding of the credit business across its entire value chain, from credit decisioning and ongoing monitoring to early warning systems, and the underlying processes and controls.
- Expertise in credit risk regulation is paramount: Hands-on knowledge of German (KWG, MaRisk) and European (EBA Guidelines, Basel) credit risk regulation, demonstrating a clear understanding of its practical implementation in credit processes and effective interaction with internal/external auditors.
- Experience in contributing to project delivery, particularly on initiatives involving the introduction of new regulatory requirements, complex credit process changes, or credit process digitization.
- Nice to have: Specific knowledge of ABS (RMBS, ABCP), Repo, Reverse Repo, securitized lending, and other structured products, coupled with a solid understanding of securitization structures and risk metrics.
- Experience working with risk data governance and data quality management processes is a strong plus.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the inherent ability to independently generate insightful conclusions from data.
- Familiarity with basic SQL commands and a proactive willingness to further develop SQL skills; Python knowledge and proficiency in Bloomberg are strong advantages.
- Fluent English is required (German is a strong plus).
